Story
I’m excited to be going to China to help Moon Bears find freedom!
I'm raising much needed funds for Animals Asia to assist them with the important work they do in making the horrible practice of bear farming a thing of the past.
The China Moon Bear Challenge aims to raise funds to continue to rescue and rehabilitate Moon Bears from the cruel practice of bile farming. The Moon Bears are rescued and then brought to a sanctuary in Chengdu, to live out their time, hanging out freely in a bamboo forest, eating it up, giving each other bear hugs and being the beautiful animals they are...
In the bile farms, the bears experience incredibly inhumane treatment; they spend all day, every day, in tight, itty bitty cages for as long as 30 years. They are milked daily for their bile in a really painful process, which is outdated, unnecessary and just plain cruel.
The bile is used in traditional Chinese medicine, even though there are 50+ cheap and effective herbal and synthetic alternatives available on the market.
As a participant of the China Moon Bear Rescue Challenge, I will be trekking 42km along the Great Wall of China, (does anyone know if Kathmandu stores make heels?!) and am raising funds which will be used for the medical attention and rescue of the Moon Bears and will be visiting their sanctuary in Chengdu in May 2012.
